Mumbai, December 6
Curfew in
trouble-torn Khamgaon town in Buldana district of
Maharashtra
continued for the fourth day on Saturday even as the
situation was
normal and under control, police said.
"No fresh incident of
violence was reported from anywhere during the
last three days and the
situation is normal and under control,"
Khamgaon police
said.
However, unlike last two days, the curfew was not relaxed in
morning
hours today, police said, adding it would continue till
further orders
as a precautionary measure. Yesterday, curfew was
relaxed for six
hours from 8 am to enable people to buy essential
things.
Curfew was clamped on Tuesday in Khamgaon, a major cotton
trading
centre of west Vidarbha, after a youth was injured after being
hit by
an autorickshaw. The accident led to an heated argument between
the
injured and the autorickshaw driver and soon supporters of both
sides
got engaged in a clash, police said.
The mob
resorted to stone pelting in which nine cops were injured.
Police then
cane-charged and opened fire in air to quell the clashing
mob.
Security in sensitive areas is still stepped up, police added.
